Stage presence…

Welcome back to my blog, this week the new thing I did was… singing at SOHO!

Ok, this one I have actually done about once or twice before a few years ago, but it is still pretty new. At SOHO the singers and performers can talk with the audience and some even ask advice on what they did and didn’t like!

SOHO is a super fun place to go. They do a lot of live music there and most days there is something going on. Some of the performances and nights have age restrictions, but many allow all ages. SOHO Santa Barbara has a website online that shows the calendars of events.

Overall it is a social and energetic live music spot and sometimes people even dance (extra plus, they have great food there if you get hungry or just wanna go to a fun dinner with friends).

My friend Jackson Gillies asked me if I wanted to perform a song or two with him there and of course, I said yes! I love to sing and it is something I would love to do in the future. Jackson and I have known each other for about two to three years. We met through a theater group and some mutual friends. He is 19 and has been singing, acting, and performing for most his life. He might even get the American Idol golden ticket! So tune in to that in the next few weeks!

At SOHO we first ate dinner and I got the chicken, it was tasty (which is a lot coming from me considering I usually think chicken is often too dry). Then Jackson started his set- which was around an hour long- some were covers and a lot of them were his originals. After he played a few songs, he called me up to sing You Go Down Smooth, by Lake Street Dive.

Everyone was so friendly and supportive! One of my old theater friends even showed up to watch.

If you live near Santa Barbara, you should go to SOHO and check it out or at least look at the website. Some pretty talented musicians have performed there and the whole place is just very interesting. Every time that I’ve gone in there, I had a good time. If you don’t live near Santa Barbara you should try to find a live music spot near you- it’s really worth it.

This was a great activity for this week and one I will definitely try to do more often- listening to live music is always fun especially with friends and family!

Till next time…

Has anyone been to SOHO, if so feel free to leave your review of it in the comments!
