Poppin into a new week…

This week the thing I tried was… making popcorn.

Well, I have actually made popcorn before, but I have never really tried seasoning it other than with those powders for sale at the store. I seasoned it with just the regular flavor of butter and salt.

I did want it to be a bit healthier though so I used Olive oil in the place of butter. If you would prefer to use butter then go for it.

The ingredients:

  • Vegetable oil
  • Olive oil
  • Popcorn Kernels
  • Salt

Tools:

  • Stove
  • Pan and Pan Lid
  • Napkins!!!

First I started by putting a layer to cover the bottom of the pan with olive oil. I put a few kernels in the pan-just 1 or 2- and turned on the stove. I put in just a few kernels because it gives better overall results in the taste of the popcorn in my opinion. This way once a few pop, the rest of the kernels can go in. It also just speeds up the whole process.

After the few popped I put in the rest of the kernels. Normally there should be a layer of kernels on the bottom with none on top of another. This is where I goofed a bit. I put in a bit too many kernels and once it started popping, it soon started overflowing. Still, it wasn’t much of a problem. I just took off the lid, let some of the popcorn go into a bowl and put the lasting kernels back on the stove.

Once the popcorn is done it can just be poured into a bowl. I then took some olive oil and drizzled it over, I would estimate about a tablespoon. It all depends on how much popcorn is there. Then I took some salt (I used pink salt) and sprinkle it over the oil covered popcorn. And now would be time for the napkins. At least in my case it was since I used my hands (yes I washed them) to mix in the oil better.

Done, Bon Appetite!

Have you ever made popcorn before, if so what have you topped it with?
