This week the next thing I did was… Perform in Teen Star Santa Barbara.

Teen Star Santa Barbara has been an annual local singing competition for the past 10 years. Each year a winner is announced and awarded the title of teen star.

It all started back in December when they held auditions. There is a panel of people who different teens sing some bars from a song to. They then-after all people have auditioned- pick 10 teens to go on to the finals (finalists) and then they select two alternates, in case something happens any of the finalists.

Practices are held on some days where all the teens (finalists and alternates) learn harmonies and a dance for the group number that will be performed in the show. The finalists spend a few months getting songs ready and get outfits ready.

Finally the day came! We all got there by 10:15 am. We had some meetings, got our outfits ready in the dressing rooms, practiced, had sound check with both songs, and then we did a run thought with outfit changes of the first half of the show. It went smoothly and the day completely flew by because we were doing something almost the whole day till the show. (Red carpet was at 6 and the rest of the night/show was till 10!)

Then we started to do makeup and hair for red carpet, put on our outfits and were ready to go. We loaded into the limo and went up to the front of the theater. People were everywhere surrounding the red carpet with signs and cheering as we all walked out of the limo one at a time.

After we walked down the red carpet we walked backstage and got changed for the group number, did the group number and went on with the show. We all sang our first song (my first song was Hero by Mariah Carey) and then it was intermission.

The moment of truth, the audience and the judges were voting on who they think should go on to the next round and sing their second song. Usually there are three people that move onto the next round, but this year it was so close there were four that moved on. Me, a boy named Dawson, and two other girls, Sofia and McKenna. One name was called (mine) first, immediately I walked on and sang my song (my second song was Shallow by Lady Gaga), talked to the judges, and then walked off the stage. That repeated for the other three people. Then there was voting once again and we all came on stage for the winner to be announced.

The host opened the folder holding the results and…. Sofia!!! We all screamed and clapped. It was so exciting and I am so proud of her. Her face was priceless!

I will definetly audition next year!

The whole experience was amazing. I got to meet some great new people- that I am now happy to call friends- and had a supper time with them. I feel so honored to have been selected for this and am so greatful.
